About This Course

The Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship is an intermediary level Accounting Apprenticeship for someone who has completed the AAT Level 2 or equivalent qualification and/or has experience working in an accounting or finance environment.

An Assistant Accountant provides support to internal and external customers and will work predominately either as an assistant accountant within practise or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation. Part of their role will involve assisting in the day-to-day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements. In addition, the Assistant Accountant may find themselves involved in regulatory financial requirements such as the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations.

The typical length of the Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship is 15 months and the AAT qualification in conjunction with the knowledge-based computer assessment and reflective portfolio aims to give the apprentice the skills and knowledge needed to work in finance and accounting related positions. These include accounts assistant, cashier, purchase ledger clerk, sales ledger clerk, trainee accounting technician and assistant accountant.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of the AAT Level 2 qualification or equivalent is required or significant experience working in a finance or accountancy role.

A discussion will be held with the employer to assess suitably for this level of qualification.

Learning & Teaching Methods

Delivery includes weekly classes to cover the requirements of the recommended qualification and most of the apprenticeship standard knowledge elements.

Visits to the workplace will be carried out to support and assess workplace competences, support the required consultative project and prepare the apprentice for End Point Assessment.

What Next?

Progression to the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting.
