Construction Trades (Beverley)
This qualification provides the ideal introduction to the construction industry and covers essential skills in the following construction trades: Bricklaying, Carpentry and Joinery.
This course is a basic introduction to individuals wanting to explore a variety of construction trades, to gain skills in those areas and perhaps to decide which trade area meets their career goals. No previous knowledge or experience is required.
Study at Level:
Level 1 Certificate
You will learn various techniques used by tradespeople in the workplace and you will be provided with expert guidance allowing you to improve your skills in each trade area.
The course includes:
- Introduction to health and safety in construction
- Constructing halving joints
- Constructing housing joints
- Constructing a half brick return corner
- Constructing block walling
A genuine interest in the construction trade plus a minimum of two GCSEs/ and/or the following:
- A satisfactory interview
- Satisfactory record of achievement/references
- Completion of the construction specific assessment and initial assessment
Work experience is encouraged but is not compulsory.
As part of the study programme, tutors will endeavor to arrange guest speakers and visits to relevant work environments and/or manufacturers to gain an understanding of the processes of the industry. Parental/guardian permission for trip is essential and will be sought at the beginning of the course to prevent delays or disappointment.
Learners can apply to progress onto the level 1 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery, Plumbing or Bricklaying if they have shown a commitment to all aspects of the study programme including English, Math's and have attendance above 90%.
