About This Course

Electrical experts are currently in high demand and its commonly a very interesting and highly rewarding career choice.

This is a College-based qualification designed to offer you a route into the electrical industry and employment/further study. You will be working on practical scenarios to enhance your skills and knowledge within the College workshops, guided at all times by our expert tutors. They will teach you how to safely undertake a range of electrical tasks such as wiring an average light fitting, wiring basic sockets, to more complex lighting circuits and beyond. You will also learn skills and behaviouirs needed in industry and explore how these can be used in other industries such as the renewable sector.

If you’re keen to know more about the inner workings of electrical systems, our courses will give you all the insight you need to progress and develop your career goals.

What You Will Learn

Level 1

  • How to carry out safe working practices in electrical
  • Wiring and terminals
  • Fabrication techniques
  • Electrical science and technology
  • Structure of the construction industry
  • Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
  • Site preparation in the construction industry

Level 2

  • Health & Safety in Building Services Electrical
  • Principals of Electrical Science
  • Installation of Wiring Systems and Enclosures
  • Understand how to communicate with other within building services

Entry Requirements

Level 1

A minimum of four GCSEs grade C / 4 or above ideally including math's and EnglishNote - If you haven’t achieved a GCSE Grade 4 (C) in English and/or Maths, you will be required to work towards this as part of your study programme. These will need to be achieved to allow progression to level 2.

Level 2

A minimum of four GCSEs grade C / 4 and above (Math's & English essential) and Level One Diploma in Electrical Installations.

 

Work Experience

Work experience is encouraged but is not compulsory.

Trips, Visits & Guest Speakers

As part of the study programme, tutors will endeavor to arrange guest speakers and visits to relevant work environments and/or manufacturers to gain an understanding of the processes of the industry. Parental/guardian permission for trip is essential and will be sought at the beginning of the course to prevent delays or disappointment.

On completion of your course the choices can be further study, an apprenticeship or a move into industry. We will provide information, advice and support during your course so you can make informed choices based on your career aspirations.
