GCSE English (ERC)
A course of study which aims to develop skills and abilities in reading and analysing a broad range of texts, writing for a variety of purposes, and speaking and listening.
Students are given a wealth of opportunities to practice reading, writing, speaking, and listening. You will study a wide variety of texts including literature fiction from the 20th and 21st Century and texts which allow you to explore and consider how a perspective or viewpoint is presented to influence the reader. You will also explore and develop your own creative writing techniques and learn skills which will equip you to write for a specified audience to share your own viewpoint and perspectives.
- A good standard of English, including an interest in reading
- Willingness to do homework on a regular basis and to keep to the deadlines set for the course work
- Re-sit students need to have previously gained a grade D/3
Successful students may wish to progress onto the AS level English Language and Literature course which runs at East Riding College.
