About This Course

Looking to progress within the MMC industry? This is it. With the new look HNC in Modern Methods of Construction.

Our HNC Modern Methods of Construction has been aligned with the occupational standard for Construction Design and Build Technician and approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE). Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) have been approved to meet relevant sector occupational standards.

The HNC in Modern Methods of Construction will develop your ability to become a competent, self-reflective person who can handle the demands of a range of professions within the Modern Methods of construction industry.

This course is suitable for people with a varied achievement profile such as those with significant work experience and those with level three qualifications related to the work sector. The studies undertaken will provide you the opportunity to progress to HND or degree level.
Learning is conducted 1 day a week through face-to-face lectures, tutorials, blended learning, and the Virtual Learning Environment as a method of student support. You will be given real life scenarios, case studies and problem-solving activities all related to the industry and specialist subject you are studying, to continue to deepen your understanding of real working life in the industry.

The construction pathway is ideal for those who are interested in a career as a design co-coordinator, construction site supervisor, design technician, site manager or project manager within the modern methods of construction sector.

Learning is conducted via lectures, tutorials, blended learning and the Virtual Learning Environment as a method of student support.   
 

Entry Requirements

Standard offer

Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject       (Target grade PPP)
Or 
A Levels with some industrial experience

Non-standard offer

Extensive industrial experience 
GCSEs English and Maths grade A-C (Grade 9-4)


Accreditation of prior learning:
Applicants may be admitted with credit for prior certificated learning (APcL) or work/life experience or other uncertificated learning (APeL)

You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including written assignments, formal presentations, group work, academic posters.

Learning & Teaching Methods

Most of your skills will be taught through delivered theory sessions, with support sessions underpinning your academic skills. 

You will take ownership of your projects and you will be expected to have a more proactive approach as the course progresses, with you working in collaboration with the lecturer to complete all projects.

Students should expect to be in classes one day a week, with the remainder of their time split between professional practice, and working on their own assignments.

What Next?

Completion of the course can lead to the Level Five BTEC Higher National Diploma in Construction, other higher education such as the BSc (Hons) in Construction or employment within the construction sectors.
