About This Course

This course will equip you with the necessary skills, experience, self-confidence and qualifications to work as a leisure and recreation assistant or coaching assistant at sports centres, health and fitness clubs, holiday camps and activity centres.

Assignments are based on realistic workplace situations, such as designing training programmes and administering fitness tests.

What You Will Learn

You will complete a number of units which are chosen from the following:

  • Fitness for Sport
  • Practical Sport Performance
  • Performer in Action
  • Training for Personal Fitness
  • Leading Sports Activities
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Lifestyle and Wellbeing
  • The Sport and Active Leisure Industry

Assessment is based on the completion of assignment work and observation of tasks and activities.

Entry Requirements

Level 2

A minimum of three GCSEs at Grade 3.

Level 3

A minimum of four GCSEs at Grade 4 or above.

Work Experience

You will take part in relevant and valuable work experience in the leisure sector to further develop your employability skills for your future.  This will take place over one term per year where you will show an interest in the sport sector of your choice.

You will be given a multitude of opportunities to gain experience in sporting environments - students who have worked in particular sectors have stayed beyond their work experience and gained employment.

 

What Next?

You could progress onto further or higher study. Or you could progress into employment in the sports and leisure industry or obtain a sport apprenticeship
