Uniformed Services (Beverley)
Are you ready to embark on a fulfilling career in public services? Our Uniformed & Public Services courses offer you a great insight into life as a member of the Police, Fire Service, Royal Navy or other services such as the Army or Royal Air Force.
Skills such as teamwork, leadership and communication form the foundation of the course but you will also develop knowledge around conflict management, crime scene investigation and take part in fitness sessions, adventure activities, drills and exercises to prepare you for life in some of the most physically demanding and vital job roles there are.
Study at Level:
Level 2
Level 3
You will learn how the different Uniformed Services operate and the types of skills you will need to succeed. Units will include the following topics:
Level 2
- Investigate Employment in the Uniformed Services
- Physical Fitness for the Uniformed Services
- Develop Team Working and Problem Solving Skills
- Health and Safety in the Uniformed Services
- Health and Hygiene in the Uniformed Services
- Follow Uniformed Service Routine
- Exploring Equality and Diversity
Level 3
- Prepare for a career in a chosen uniformed service
- Physical fitness for entry to the uniformed services
- Leadership skills
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
- Hierarchy and routine yes
- Map reading and navigation
- Conflict management and personal protection
- Emergency planning and response
- Legal systems and uniformed services
- Crime scene investigation
You will also develop transferable skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership and employability skills.
Level 2
You will require a minimum of 3 GCSEs grade 3 or above including Maths and/or English.
Level 3
You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 4 or above including Maths and English. To progress onto Year 2, you must have successfully completed Year 1.
You will need an interest in and an aspiration to join the uniformed and public services.
Work experience opportunities include placements in local youth organisations, schools and public sector organisations.Events with the RAF, Royal Marines, Army and Police can also count towards work experience hours.
We will offer a variety of trips, visits and guest speakers to enrich your programme. This could include The Army and Army Reservists visiting with army vehicles, representatives from the Police to talk about crime and crime preventions, visits to Law Courts, Fire Stations and potentially a residential opportunity at a local barracks. Demonstrations and activities around self-defence will also be available.
If your attendance, punctuality and behaviour is good, you will be able to progress to the next level of your course.
Once you’ve completed a Level 3 qualification, you could progress into employment in one of the uniformed or public services, or further your studies with a degree-level qualification or an apprenticeship in the Armed Forces or Police.
