Advanced Learner Loans
The Advanced Learner Loan is a non means-tested or credit-checked helping hand, offered by the Government. It is accessible to individuals aged 24 and above who aim to pursue Level 3 or higher qualifications, including National Certificates or Diplomas, as well as advanced apprenticeships. Additionally, individuals aged 19 and above with an existing Level 3 qualification are also eligible. While the majority of courses qualify for loans, it is advisable to check eligibility before enrollment if you intend to apply for the loan.
Can anyone apply?
To qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan, you must meet the following criteria:
Enrolled at an accredited college or training provider in England.
Aged 19 or above on the initial day of your approved course.
Currently residing in the UK, holding UK nationality or Irish citizenship, or possessing ‘settled status’ with at least three years of residency in the UK prior to commencing your course.
In certain instances, individuals with varying residency statuses may also be eligible. Please check eligibility before enrolling.
You’re required to apply for each course once. Therefore, if your course spans multiple years, you don’t need to reapply for each year. However, please note that you cannot apply for another loan to repeat the same level of course within the same subject area. For instance, if you’re pursuing a Level 3 90 Credit diploma followed by a Level 3 Extended Diploma, you’ll need to apply annually.
How do you pay it back?
If your course commences in 2023, loan repayment will commence once your earnings surpass £27,295 annually. Afterward, only 9% of earnings exceeding £27,295 will be repaid. For example, if your yearly income is £28,800, your monthly repayment would be approximately £11. The repayment thresholds change on 6th April each year.
