Intensive Support (safeguarding)

Safeguarding – Working together to ensure that we are doing everything we can so that learners, staff and visitors to our site are protected from harm and feel safe.

The Government provides statutory guidance on how to achieve this in addition to local strategies and procedures outlined by the authorities we work very closely with. It is important to us that everyone who comes to the East Riding College feels safe, supported and valued.

Inclusion Team

The inclusion team provides assistance in the classroom, workshop, or examination hall. Learners indicating a need for such support on their application form will undergo assessment and receive suitable assistance in a supportive and empathetic manner.

The services provided by the inclusion team include:

  • Practical advice and support for physical disabilities and specified learning difficulties such as ADD, AHD, Asperger’s, dyslexia and other medical or mental health conditions
  • Support for visual or hearing impairments
  • Support in the classroom and in the wider Institute environment
  • Help to access specialist equipment for your course

Success Coaches

Success Coaches are here to help you with any aspect of your student life, including any issues or concerns that you may have.

Each full-time learner will be assigned a Success Coach, tasked with providing pastoral support, monitoring academic progress, and overseeing overall welfare, offering guidance throughout your journey at East Riding College. Regular meetings with your Success Coach will be scheduled to assess progress and establish targets, aiding both short-term and long-term goals.

These sessions also offer a valuable chance to address any extra support you might need, covering:

  • Worries about your course
  • Additional learning support needs
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Plans for the future
  • Financial difficulties
  • Health issues (physical, mental or emotional)
  • Family and home issues
  • Friends and relationships

Success Coaches are also available to support learners in their chosen path of progression, whether it involves further education, university applications, apprenticeships, or employment. Additionally, your Success Coach will conduct weekly group tutorial sessions for your class, addressing various topics related to personal development.

Counselling Service

We have a dedicated counsellor who offers all learners access to a confidential counselling service, covering all aspects of mental health and emotional wellbeing. If this is something you feel you may be interested in, then please contact 0345 120 0044.
