East Riding College student shortlisted for national NCFE Aspiration Award

A student from East Riding College, part of the TEC Partnership, has been recognised nationally after being shortlisted for Learner of the Year in the NCFE Aspiration Awards.

Harvey Truscott-Hull, who studies Health and Social Care at East Riding College, has been praised for his determination, commitment and personal growth throughout his educational journey.

Harvey began studying on the Level 1 Health and Social Care course and is now nearing completion of Level 2, exceeding expectations through his hard work, positive attitude and dedication to improving both academically and personally.

Tutors have highlighted Harvey’s exceptional commitment to learning, including achieving 100% attendance and consistently arriving to lessons ready to engage, contribute and challenge himself.

Throughout his time at college, Harvey has grown in confidence, independence and understanding of the health and social care sector, developing the skills and qualities needed for a future career in the industry.

Alongside his academic success, Harvey is known for being kind, caring and approachable, helping to create a positive and supportive environment for fellow students.

Kirsty Coleman, the East Riding College assessor who nominated Harvey for the award, said:

“One of the things that really stands out about Harvey is the determination he has shown to improve his maths. He chose to attend extra maths sessions in his own time, which demonstrates real motivation and commitment to his future goals.

“Through his own hard work and the support of our maths tutors, Harvey successfully achieved his Maths GCSE, which is a huge accomplishment and something he should be incredibly proud of.”

Nicola Adams, Interim Principal at East Riding College, said:

“We are incredibly proud of Harvey and everything he has achieved. His nomination for Learner of the Year is thoroughly deserved and reflects the hard work, determination and positive attitude he demonstrates every single day.

“Harvey’s journey is a fantastic example of how further education can help students grow in confidence, develop valuable skills and realise their potential. He has embraced every opportunity available to him and has become a real role model for others at college.

“Achievements like this are important not only for Harvey personally, but also for our wider community, showing the incredible talent and ambition we have across our region.”

Staff at East Riding College have also praised Harvey for the positive influence he has on his peers, describing him as focused, respectful and supportive within the classroom environment.

The NCFE Aspiration Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in education, training and apprenticeships across the UK, recognising learners who demonstrate commitment, resilience and excellence.

Harvey’s success highlights the importance of vocational education and the opportunities it creates for young people to build skills, confidence and rewarding futures within their chosen industries.

The winners of the NCFE Aspiration Awards will be announced later this year.
