Graduates Celebrate Award Success

Graduates from East Riding College and Scarborough TEC donned their cap and gowns to celebrate their achievements with family and friends, at their annual Higher education Awards ceremony in Bridlington on Saturday 15th October.

East Riding College’s Chair of the Board, Kerri Harrold welcomed the 2022 graduates and their guests to the prestigious event, which was held at the historic Priory Church of St Mary. Students were called to collect their awards by their Heads of Curriculum, with Danny Metters, Principal of East Riding College & Scarborough TEC conferring the awards, he said:

“It was a pleasure to lead the first graduation, as Principal, for the Scarborough TEC and East Riding College as a joint event at the Priory. Higher education supports higher level skills development which is essential to support the employment and skills agenda. What our success illustrates is that, if you give people the opportunity and the support to study for higher level qualifications closer to home and places of employment, it really works, and contributes to something that is invaluable to our community. Not least is the contribution that a highly qualified, skilled workforce can make to the economic and social prosperity of the communities that we serve.”

Also present at the celebration was special guest, Dave Richards, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Hull, who gave the address and congratulated the graduates on their success.

BA (Hons) Contemporary Media Design and Production Graduate, George Kitchen, was awarded Student of the Year award recognising his hard work and dedication to his studies.

George said: “I was shocked when I heard I’d been awarded Student of the Year! I started on a Level 1 course, and I got to where I am today with the help and support of the amazing team at ERC. The tutors have been so supportive, they were always there for me. I’m now working at the college and I’m really enjoying it.”

George is now working at East Riding College as a Learning Support Advisor and is using his skills and confidence to guide and help other students to succeed.

Following their awards ceremony graduates and their invited guests enjoyed a reception at East Riding College’s St Mary’s Walk campus.

Higher Education at East Riding College and Scarborough TEC is built on partnerships with the University of Hull, the University of Huddersfield and other national validating bodies.

The colleges run an expanding range of degrees, higher national certificates and diplomas in a wide variety of subjects, as well as a Master’s in Education and various teacher training courses.
